What is Wabisabi?

It’s aspen leaves yellowing in cool autumn nights.  Coffee-stained chips and crackled glaze on a  favorite coffee mug.  It’s what becomes visible when one gives up the myopic vision of perfection and opens to the
splendidly messy, colorful, rich sprawl of the full human experience.

There are many views of what the term means,  most of them steeped in Buddhist philosophy and aesthetics (http://www.nobleharbor.com/tea/chado/WhatIsWabi-Sabi.htm).  My own shorthand translation is “perfect imperfection”.  This blog is an exploration of the lived experience of wabi-sabi, the way we each weave together our threads to form a whole cloth.
